Description
SolarWinds NetFlow Traffic Analyzer (NTA) answers the most common network question: "Who is using all the bandwidth?". While standard monitoring tells you traffic is high, NTA tells you exactly what that traffic is.
NTA collects flow data (NetFlow, sFlow, IPFIX, J-Flow) from your routers and switches to visualize traffic patterns. You can see bandwidth usage by User, Application (e.g., YouTube, Zoom), Protocol, and Country. Note: NTA is an add-on module and requires SolarWinds Network Performance Monitor (NPM).
Key Features
- Bandwidth Monitoring: Drill down into interface traffic to see top talkers, conversations, and endpoints.
- Application Recognition: Uses NBAR2 to identify encrypted applications like Skype, Zoom, and Office 365 traffic.
- Alerting: Receive alerts when specific application traffic (e.g., Netflix or Tor) exceeds a set threshold.
- CBQoS Policy: Monitor Class-Based Quality of Service policies to ensure business-critical VoIP traffic is prioritized.
- Multi-Vendor Support: Supports NetFlow v5/v9, Flexible NetFlow, sFlow, IPFIX, J-Flow, and Huawei NetStream.

Trending FAQs: Traffic Analysis
Q: Does NTA work by itself?
A: No. NTA is an add-on module. It requires an existing installation of SolarWinds Network Performance Monitor (NPM) to function. The two products share a single database and dashboard.
Q: How is NTA licensed?
A: NTA licensing must match your NPM license level. If you have an NPM SL500 license (500 nodes), you must purchase an NTA SL500 license. You cannot buy a smaller NTA license than your NPM license.
Q: Why can't I just use SNMP?
A: SNMP only tells you "how much" traffic there is (Volume). NetFlow (NTA) tells you "what" the traffic is (Composition). If you need to know if slowness is due to a backup job or someone streaming Netflix, you need NTA.
Q: Does it support sFlow and IPFIX?
A: Yes! NTA supports all major flow standards including Cisco NetFlow v5/v9, Juniper J-Flow, sFlow, IPFIX, and Huawei NetStream.
